Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not get distracted by friends or electronic devices.
Lock your vehicle and don't leave personal items out in the open. Many crimes are crimes of opportunity, so don’t give anyone the opportunity, even if you think that the area is safe.
Utilize the buddy system, especially at night. If you leave with a friend, make sure you come back together. If you are alone and you feel uneasy, call Campus Safety and an officer will be happy to escort you to your destination on campus.
Be familiar with the layout of campus and any buildings you frequent.
Avoid risky situations. If you are uneasy about something, do not do it.
Do not prop open locked doors. Make sure locked doors are secured behind you when exiting.
Report suspicious activity and unsafe conditions. The
Silent Witness form
can be used for discrete reporting.
Mark your valuables to discourage theft and be sure to keep records of any serial numbers. Campus Safety maintains an engraver for your convenience.
