Description

This course provides a thorough introduction to the scientific study of language, offering students a foundational understanding of linguistics. Students will explore the structure of language at multiple levels—sounds, words, sentences, and meaning—and examine how language functions in society. The course covers core areas such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, as well as topics like language acquisition, variation, and change. Through lectures, discussions, hands-on analysis, and practical assignments, students will learn to analyze linguistic data, recognize patterns across languages, and appreciate the complexity and diversity of human language. The course also highlights applications of linguistics in education, technology, translation, and communication.
