PURPOSE AND GOAL

The purpose of this agreement is to outline expectations regarding the residency requirements for a Southern Wesleyan University undergraduate student. 

The goal of the residency is to provide practical ministry experience and develop the resident in the skills of ministry (eg leadership, relational dynamics, communication).

Southern Wesleyan University Agrees

1. That the 3+1 Ministry Residency Director shall act as a liaison between the college and the residency site and shall be available for content in the event of any question, problem, or change in relation to the student or site. Contact info: Mark Wilson, mwilson@swu.edu, 715-558-3555.

2. To instruct the student to the student to adhere to the administrative policies, rules, schedules, standards, and practices of the 3+1 Ministry Residency Partner site.

3. That the 3+1 Ministry Residency Director will provide insight, counsel and assistance as needed to the 3+1 Ministry Residency Partner site.

4. That the 3+1 Ministry Residency Director will be responsible for assigning residency grades.

3+1 Ministry Residency Partner (Site) Agrees

1. To provide 25 hours (not to exceed 29 hours) of weekly ministry residency experience. This must include practical ministry opportunities such as leading, teaching, and organizing, as well as intentional personal and spiritual growth.

2. To provide a weekly meeting for ministry coaching and developmental feedback (minimum of 1 hour per week).  That meeting will be held weekly on __________ (day of week)  at __________ (time of day).

3. To provide a spiritual formation mentor who will meet at least monthly with the student.

4. To include the 3+1 ministry resident in meetings and functions of the pastoral staff team as appropriate.

5. To fill out the required evaluations (2x per semester) initiated by the student.

6. To give the student at least one and preferably two days off per week.

7. To provide room and board for the resident.

8. To provide a monthly stipend of __________ ($500 minimum).

9. To provide the opportunity for the resident to participate in a ministry leadership training event at some point during the two semesters of residency (either fall or spring).

10. To contact Southern University’s Title IX Coordinator, Dana Frost (864-644-5004, email: dfrost@swu.edu) should the residency site learn of any student issue related to sexual harassment, discrimination, or sexual assault. Resident Agrees

1. Meet weekly with the Ministry Coach for guidance, feedback, and development.

2. Complete all assignments through Canvas.

3. Participate fully in the life of the church, attending all functions as reasonably expected.

4. Be a good and gracious guest in the home provided for you.

5. Abide by all ministry site policies and procedures.

6. Receive honest feedback with humility; you are here to learn.

7. Conduct yourself in a manner worthy of a Christian minister, doing nothing that would bring disgrace to God, the church, or Southern Wesleyan University.

8. Communicate well with the ministry coach about schedule, academics, and general progress.

9. Demonstrate a servant’s spirit without any sense of entitlement.

10. Satisfactorily fulfill the 3+1 Ministry Residency Development Plan included in this contract.
