Emphasis is placed on the five pillars of reading instruction—phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension—and how to integrate these components effectively in the classroom to support all learners. The course covers explicit, systematic, and cumulative instructional methods, including Structured Literacy approaches, and guides participants in using diagnostic and responsive teaching techniques.
