    Description

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the principles and practices of effective phonics instruction for aspiring and current educators. Students will examine the structure of the English language, focusing on the relationship between phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics. The course covers the sound-symbol correspondences foundational to reading and spelling, and emphasizes research-based strategies for teaching phonics systematically and explicitly across grade levels.Participants will analyze the linguistic and cognitive bases of reading, learn to distinguish between various approaches to reading instruction, and gain practical skills in designing, delivering, and assessing effective phonics lessons. The course integrates theory with hands-on activities, lesson planning, and field experiences to prepare educators to implement high-quality phonics instruction in diverse classroom settings.
